ENNIS – Another scam alert and it seems each week scams increase in number and complexity.

Ennis Police reported at its Facebook page, “With advancements in technology, scammers are discovering new ways to trick individuals into revealing their personal information.”

That same information can also be used to access credit cards and bank accounts or even to open accounts in your name for their benefit.

Currently, there is a scam in Ennis involving phone calls from individuals who say they are from the FDIC. The call begins stating the person needs to verify information.

Ennis PD reported recently, an Ennis resident received such a call and expressed a desire for the Ennis Police Department to verify the caller’s legitimacy.

“While the caller was able to spoof the real phone number of our department, it was not us,” the Facebook post explained.

They suggest everyone be aware the Ennis Police Department will never verify whether a company is legitimate.

“There have been instances of individuals claiming to collect money on behalf of our department for various charities; however, these solicitations are not sanctioned or approved by us,” the post went on to read.

As a reminder, use caution with unsolicited requests for personal information.
