OVILLA – Ellis County residents don’t have to go very far this summer when looking for good music and good wine.

The City of Ovilla will be having a Music in the Park event on June 15 at Heritage Park starting at 7 p.m.

This is not the first Music in the Park for the city, for the last few years the annual event has been a way to kick off the summer right.

“When the city’s Park Board was formed three years ago, one of its goals was to foster a greater sense of community and connection,” says City of Ovilla’s Park Board Chairman Brian Treadaway.

“One of the ways the Park Board works toward that goal is through the event, “Music in the Park.”

This year›s event, which will be held at Heritage Park will be the third Music in the Park event for the city.”

Playing at this year’s Music in the Park are the Vanderburg Brothers.

Treadaway says this band brings a variety of music styles and genre for the whole community playing everything from country, to blues, to pop, to oldies, as well as their own originals.

Caleb Vanderburg is the worship director at Vertical Church in Ovilla and Ryan Vanderburg is one of the worship leaders at First Baptist Church of Midlothian.

“There have been many changes in downtown Ovilla since Music in the Park started four years ago,” Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier says of the event.

“We expect another great event this year and encourage everyone to come and enjoy an evening in downtown Ovilla.”

Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, drinks, and enjoy the music.

New in Ovilla, Cassaro Winery will be having its own brand of music and wine with the Concert on the Creek events.

From 7 to 9 p.m. on June 22 outside the winery on Red Oak Creek the music will be featuring Rocky Soul.

Rocky Soul performs smooth, easy listening acoustic rock, blues, and soul and general admission tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door.

“Ovilla summers have certainly come to life compared to years ago,” concludes Ovilla Mayor Pro Tem David Griffin.

“Our very active Parks Board under the Chairmanship of Brian Treadaway is now bringing us Movie in the Park night and Music in the Park night twice per year.”

“Plans are being worked on for a new Pavilion too, which will be built for new and old city events as well as allowing for citizen’s use too.

“Of course, the new Cassaro Winery in downtown Ovilla is also holding music events with music, food, and fun and tours with award-winning wine sampling.

“Our Ovilla downtown has certainly come alive again. Citizens need to come out and enjoy our community and have some fun.”
