ELLIS COUNTY – Major state, regional, and municipal infrastructure projects are underway across Ellis County. This summer you can continue to expect driving traffic updates and lane shifts as the work continues.
The primary roadwork, highway expansions, and capital improvements defining the county’s landscape include:
Major Highway & Corridor Construction: I-35E & FM 664 Interchange Project (Red Oak): Construction on the $137 million Single-Point Urban Interchange is heavily active.
Crews are finalizing the northern half of the FM 664 bridge, with traffic shifting over to allow construction to pivot directly onto the southern half of the bridge. Regular nighttime lane closures and frontage road detours are active.
US Highway 67 Interchange (Midlothian): A $68.5 million interchange infrastructure project is underway along US 67 at Lake Ridge Parkway. This multi-year upgrade is constructing new grade separations to handle swelling commuter traffic volumes.
Loop 9 (Segment B): TxDOT crews are entering the final completion phases of Loop 9 Segment B, a massive $78 million project stretching from I-35E to I-45. Crews have been finalizing the initial two-lane frontage roads.
Loop 9 (Segment A): Right-of-way acquisition and preliminary construction continue along this 9.4-mile corridor linking US 67 to I-35E, connecting Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Ovilla, Glenn Heights, and Red Oak.
Local Roadway Repairs & Utility Upgrades: Pensacola Avenue Reconstruction (Waxahachie): Major municipal street utility work is underway to replace old infrastructure. This project consists of full concrete reconstruction of 1,900 linear feet of Pensacola Avenue and 400 feet of Chiles Street, combined with the installation of over 3,300 total feet of new water and sanitary sewer lines.
Lowrance Road Reconstruction (Red Oak): Full-depth repairs and excavation are active in front of Red Oak High School, enforcing a strict southbound-only traffic configuration with heavy northbound detours.
County-Wide Overlay Maintenance: Ellis County Precinct crews are executing ongoing summer asphalt overlay and lightweight aggregate road rehabilitation across rural connecting roadways.
Commercial & Community Infrastructure: Soprema Manufacturing Facility (Ennis): Progress continues on a massive $77 million commercial roofing product plant inside the Ennis TIRZ III zone off FM 1183, injecting industrial growth into the eastern side of the county.
