WAXAHACHIE – The Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie has once again received a perfect score during its annual state inspection.
The annual inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards found no deficiencies, according to Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman.
The inspection was conducted over two days earlier this month and concluded with a meeting between jail administrators, County Judge John Wray, Sheriff Norman and the state inspector to review the findings.
In a social media post Norman said, “I’m proud to say, we passed with flying colors with no issues. I want to thank the amazing staff we have at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center to include Detention Officers, Supervisors and our Administrative staff for a job well done that is often a thankless job.”
The jail’s daily operations are overseen by Chief Deputy Terry Ogden, Jail Administrator Wendy Hammonds and lieutenants Daniel Gonzales, George Flores, Jamie Land and Tina Bush.
The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking applicants for detention officer positions. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, have no criminal history and meet other employment requirements.
Starting salary is $57,985. Applications are available through the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office website.
