WAXAHACHIE – At a recent Ellis County Commissioner’s Court meeting a resolution was read supporting Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The county’s initiative for the month is called “Paint the Town Blue” recognized by Ellis County Judge John Wray and the commissioners.
There were several community volunteers in attendance who serve in the various advocacy groups in the county.
The resolution recognized that child abuse and neglect affect thousands of families each year and the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center provides critical services to children who have experienced abuse.
The center offers coordinated investigations, advocacy and support to help children begin the healing process.
Wray informed that April is the nationally recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month and encouraged community awareness.
He explained Ellis County’s Paint the Town Blue Initiative is a visual movement designed to raise awareness for the thousands of children impacted by abuse.
Wray encouraged all residents, businesses, schools and community organizations to participate in Paint the Town Blue by displaying blue ribbons, pinwheels and blue lights to serve as a powerful reminder of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
