WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Commissioner’s Court gave out its first ever “Heroic Citizen Award” to Jaden Segura, 16.

The award recognized Segura’s heroic actions on May 5, when he saved the life of a motorcyclist at the intersection of FM 813 and Gibson Road in Waxahachie.

Segura witnessed the accident at the intersection resulting in a life-threatening hemorrhage for the motorcyclist.

As a participant in the Explorer program administered by TX DPS and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the young man utilized the training he acquired in the Explorer program, retrieved a tourniquet from his vehicle and promptly administered life-saving aid to the victim, saving her life.

DPS Sergeant Ricky Barber, who helped administer the Explorer program said, “Our future is bright, and we are in good hands, thanks to young people like Jaden” as he patted the young man on the back.

Ellis County Judge Todd Little added, “I want to thank the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and DPS for their extraordinary Explorer program.

“Thanks to this extraordinary young man and the training he was provided, one of our fellow citizens is still here today.”

Segura received the award in the Commissioners’ Courtroom by Little and upon leaving, he and his family were given a standing ovation.
