WILMER – The City of Wilmer held a free COVID-19 site this week to big success.
Organized by the city, at least 200 residents and area locals showed up Monday during a six-hour window at the Wilmer Community Center to be tested for the pandemic.
“Monday’s COVID-19 testing at Wilmer’s Community Center was a real success,” said Wilmer City Administrator Rona Stringfellow.
“With no cost, no appointment and no symptoms the testing site gave Wilmer residents and those living in the surrounding cities a chance to be tested.”
The National Guard was on hand to help with the testing logistics.
Patients were asked to register for testing onsite and stay in a designated area until called for the test.
There were 200 tests administered throughout the day at the Wilmer Community Center.
Test results will be reported back to those tested in three to four business days.
“We hope the testing gave our residents peace of mind as to whether they are negative or positive with answers on what to do next,” Stringfellow said.
“With the increase in COVID-19 in the past few weeks, the City of Wilmer is very glad we were able to offer this free service.”
