ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Commissioners approved unanimously to sign off on the approval to close out the Texas COVID-19 Public Assistance for Ellis County grant.
Emergency Management Coordinator Michaela Sandefer spoke on this item and told commissioners the grant began in 2021 with an eligible amount of $332,053.23.
Ellis County was able to use $274,353.54 of the full amount or 80% of what they applied for overall.
The office submitted nine different documents and requests for further information to claim the full amount.
“Unfortunately, 20% was not granted and deemed unsubstantiated that did not comply with the public assistance program,” Sandefer explained.
Ellis County Judge Todd Little said the county had pushed back multiple times when it was only going to receive $40,000 to $60, 000.
“I think 80% is very good,” he concluded.
“The state has limited funds, and we appreciate their helping us out.”
