RED OAK – A certificate of resolution granting approval for a project of the Red Oak Economic Development Corporation to buy 133.5 acres of land was unanimously approved Ellis County Commissioners.

The land is located within Ellis County, but outside the city limits of Red Oak.

Location of the property was not discussed at the meeting.

Red Oak Economic Development Director Lee McCleary explained this vote was necessary since the land is outside the city limits and will be purchased using sales tax dollars.

McCleary said, “We are in the process of purchasing two properties, one is 131 acres and the second a little under two acres.”

He said it is the same property owner, and the city would be using sales tax and bond money to purchase the properties.

“Under the Texas local government code 50159, when Economic Development Corporations purchase property using bond funds and any of that property is outside the city limits, then it requires by statute to go to the County Commissioners seeking their support and giving the EDC approval to purchase.”

On April 5, 2022, Red Oak’s Industrial Development Corporation requested approval by the commissioners for a similar resolution, which was granted.
