WILMER - If you live in Wilmer and are wondering what is going on in your city - that is going to change.

The city recently partnered with a company called Nixle to implement its Community Notification System. This system will alert residents in real-time about localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories.

City staff said the service is secure, reliable and easy to use.

“Wilmer residents can now receive real time public safety messages through Nixle,” informed a press release explaining the new system.

Residents just need to follow these simple steps in order to register to receive alerts:

1. Text 75172 to 888777 from your mobile phone or,

2. Go to cityofwilmer.net and sign up via the Nixle Widget.

Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a user profile.

The city alerts will be targeted geographically and allow residents to receive localized, relevant alerts from the City of Wilmer. Nixle alerts can be sent via text, email, web and the Nixle Mobile App in an instant.

Nixle is partnered with NLETS for unmatched data security, as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Blue Alert Network, and Google for unmatched reach and twoway information exchange.
