MIDLOTHIAN – Last week, the Midlothian Police alerted residents to an incident involving a barricaded person in the 2400 block of Byrd Ranch Rd.
Law enforcement asked residents in the area to evacuate or shelter in place.
The incident occurred Jan. 13 when the city’s dispatch center received a 911 phone call from the residence on Byrd Ranch Road.
The caller reported that Derrick Lyn Morris was pointing a firearm at a female.
Midlothian patrol officers contacted Morris on the phone and he admitted to pointing the firearm at the female.
Officers then made contact with the unnamed female who also confirmed Morris pointed the firearm at her and threatened to shoot her.
Morris initially refused to leave the residence to speak with officers and told them he was not going to jail or comply with officers, according to Midlothian Police.
Morris also advised he had barricaded the front door and positioned weapons.
Police said, “Due to the nature of the alleged offense, presence of weapons, and Mr. Morris’ stated intentions and noncompliance, officers established a perimeter and requested additional resources.”
Midlothian PD’s Criminal Investigations Division was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Morris for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a Second Degree Felony, as well as a search warrant for the residence.
He ultimately complied and was taken into custody.
