ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Commissioner’s voted unanimously to approve the 2026 fiscal year budget and 0.273992 tax rate.

Ellis County Judge John Wray commended Ellis County Chief of Staff Ryan Garrett for his part in the successful budget.

“Working up the budget is a very difficult task – and the operation is very lean,” Wray said.

“It is very lean from a personnel standpoint and it is very lean from a software standpoint. Ryan has done an excellent job for three budget cycles, which is probably about two more than most people could have tolerated – and we appreciate his efforts.”

The 2026 budget will raise more total property tax than last year’s budget by $7,387,266 million at 7.88% increase.

From that amount, $4,349,628 is tax revenue to be raised from the new property added to the tax roll this year.

The fiscal year 2026 budget was approved unanimously by the commissioners and Judge Wray 5-0. Wray read the numbers before the vote, “The proposed tax year 2025 property tax rate would be composed of M&O of 0.246737, INS of 0.009041, and F&M of 0.018214 and that is a total tax rate of 0.273992.”
