DESOTO – Ferris residents showed up at State Representative Carl Sherman’s re-election campaign kick-off Monday night at the Manderley Event Center in DeSoto.
Kelly and Sharon Harris sat alongside past DeSoto Mayor Bobby Waddle, current DeSoto Mayor Curtistene McCowan and State Representative Victoria Neave, District 107, all showing their support for the current state representative.
Sherman was introduced by his oldest daughter Ryan Traylor who said of her father, “When I think of my dad and what he brings to every position, he creates a wealth and a richness in every community.
“Not because he just provides people with one way, but because he sits down and says how can I create options.”
Traylor said as her father came to the podium “My dad, you know he is always thinking big.
“Sometimes to the point where I am like woah, but then stay onboard because those things become a reality.
“So, I am so excited to introduce him, I am excited because he always earns my vote.”
Sherman sits on the esteemed House Appropriations Committee as well as the House Administration Committee and the House Corrections Committee.
He was also recently named to a special select judicial committee.
“I need your help to insure we are able to run this race to victory because I am confident I am fighting for the right things for our people,” Sherman said at the campaign kick-off.
“I stand here as your State Representative with the first session [done] and excited about the next session as we move into the future. We have made a lot of progress.”
Sherman was one of only two freshmen appointed to the esteemed appropriations committee and told those in the crowd Monday night,
“I don’t care if you are Republican or Democrat I believe we should be voting for balance in the house and the senate because not everything Republicans do is wrong and not everything Democrats do is right.”
He added, “At the end of the day, because we had a sweep in the house as far as new seats, we were able to get something done that we had never gotten done before.”
General elections for the Texas House of Representatives will take place in November.
The primary is scheduled for March 3, and Sherman does have a challenger.
The Texas House of Representatives is one of 86 state legislative chambers holding elections this year.
