This October, the library is buzzing with activity!

From honoring school traditions and celebrating the right to read, to enjoying crafts and spooky fun, we invite you to visit and rediscover everything your library has to offer.

Each year, libraries across the country observe Banned Books Week to highlight the importance of intellectual freedom and the right to read. From Oct. 5-11, we will showcase a special collection of books that have been challenged or banned in different places and times. These titles, ranging from classic literature to elementary fiction, remind us of the power of stories to inspire, challenge, and reflect our world. Visitors are encouraged to browse the display, learn more about why these books have faced challenges, and celebrate the freedom to choose what we read.

The library is proud to be part of this year’s Homecoming festivities! On Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4–5 p.m., families are invited to join us for a special Homecoming-themed craft, just in time to show off your creations at the big game on Friday, Oct. 17. All week long, visitors can stop in to visit our Judge Grace Campbell McKnight Genealogy room and explore our displays featuring yearbooks, photographs, and local history materials that showcase decades of community pride and tradition.

To wrap up the month, the library will host programs and activities for all ages in celebration of Halloween. Families can enjoy seasonal crafts, spooky (but not too scary) stories, and a chance to dress up in costumes while spending time together at the library. We’ll also have displays featuring thrilling mysteries, eerie ghost stories, and plenty of fun fall reads to set the mood for the season.

STORY TIME is hosted every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Children are treated to stories, fun activities, and a snack. Before leaving, your child may choose a prize from the Treasure Chest to take home.

GAME TIME and Lego Lab are offered on alternating Thursdays from 4 – 5 p.m., giving children a chance to play, build, and grow in a fun, welcoming space.

The library is located at 301 E. 10th St., across from Mutz Ballpark. Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.
