Did you know these Veterans Day Facts:
• It began as “Armistice Day.” The holiday was originally created to mark the end of World War I, which officially ended on Nov. 11, 1918.
• The date is symbolic. Fighting stopped on the “11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.” That’s why we still celebrate on Nov. 11 each year.
• Veterans Day became official in 1954. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill changing “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” to honor veterans of all U.S. wars.
• Veterans Day is not the same as Memorial Day. Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, while Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives in service to our country.
