FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than Books (November 10, 2022)

With your Ferris Public Library membership, you can be part of the first global virtual book club, Big Library Read (BLR), facilitated by Overdrive through the free Libby app.

“A Snake Falls to Earth” by Darcie Little Badger will be available, without any wait lists or holds, now through Nov. 16, 2022.

Readers around the world will have unlimited access to this same e-book, or audiobook, at the same time.

Also, there’s a discussion board along with a discussion guide to encourage conversations between readers.

Readers can use #biglibraryread on social media for a chance to win a tablet, Libby swag, and signed books by the author.

We have “Pumpkin Pages” that your child(ren) may color and either take home or let us display their artistic talent here. Pages will be accepted and displayed until Nov. 30, 2022.

NEW BOOKS: “Distant Thunder” by Stuart Woods, “Hide” by Kiersten White, “Sunburst: Sky King Ranch #2” by Susan May Warren, “A Darker Reality: Elena Standish Novel #3” and “A Truth to Lie For: Elena Standish Novel #4” by Anne Perry, and “Dark Angel” by Andrews & Wilson.

WORD OF THE WEEK: “Impromptu” (im-PRAHMP-too), meaning done on the spur of the moment or without preparation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous 1963 speech “I Have a Dream” ended up being very different from the speech he originally prepared. He made an impromptu decision to ditch his speech and speak about his dreams for the future when gospel singer Mahalia Jackson shouted, “Tell them about the dream, Martin!”
