FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than Books (March 3, 2022)

The Ferris Public Library’s Black History Month Contest was very popular again this year. We had over 25 individual names in the drawing contest. We'll be announcing the winners next week. However, the deadline to submit the library’s weekly article to the Ellis County Press comes before the drawing. On the bright side, maybe we can get their pictures in the newspaper!

I anticipate a busy day for the judges and clerks working the Ellis County Joint Primary Election on March 2, 2022. However, suppose you have not registered to vote in the May Joint Election. In that case, you can register online at voteTexas.gov or visit the library and pick up a Texas Voter Registration Application that can be mailed to the Registrar of Voters office, postage paid. The deadline to register to vote in the May election is Thursday, April 7, 2022.

We have received the tax forms 1040 and 1040-SR along with the instruction book for your 2021 tax return.

NEW BOOKS: “Mercy” by David Baldacci, “When You Get the Chance” by Emma Lord, “The Last House on the Street” by Diane Chamberlain, “Tom Clancy’s Chain of Command” by Marc Cameron, “The Winter Rose” by Melanie Dobson, “The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization are Destroying the Idea of America” (Dewey 323) by Victor Davis Hanson, “Martha Stewart’s Fruit Desserts: 100 Delicious Ways to Savor the Best of Every Season” (Dewey 614) by Martha Stewart, and “Midnight in Washington: How We Almost Lost Our Democracy and Still Could” (Dewey 973) by Adam Schiff.

WORD OF THE WEEK: Honorary (AH-nuh-rair-ee), given or elected to recognize an achievement or service without the usual requirements. In 1981, a dog named Bosco beat two people in an election and was named honorary mayor of Sunol, California.
