    RED OAK – The Red Oak Hawks took care of business in their home opener on Friday, August 29, beating the Colleyville Heritage Panthers by a score of 20-11.

    This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 32-29 defeat the last time these two teams met in August, 2024.

    Both offenses struggled against two very good defensive squads who kept both quarterbacks on the move, and neither offense could get into a rhythm.

    Red Oak scored first in the 1st quarter, going up 7-0. Then later in the same quarter on a 4th down punt attempt, the ball sailed over the Red Oak punter’s outstretched hands, forcing him to jump on the ball in the end zone giving Colleyville a safety.

    Colleyville’s offense finally scored in the 2nd quarter on a deep crossing pass but missed the extra point and took an 8-7 lead into halftime.

    In the 3rd quarter, Colleyville kicked a field goal to go up 11-7. Red Oak missed an FG attempt early in the quarter but eventually scored a touchdown on a pass from quarterback Bill Middleton to Brayden Robinson, taking the lead back 14-11 heading into the 4th quarter.

    The Hawks for the most part controlled the 4th quarter. With some key runs by QB Middleton, including his first half TD, a big run up the middle from Daylan Johnson,  and a final touchdown run by Renard Thomas put the Hawks up for good.

    The Hawks defense, like they did most of the game, shut down the Colleyville offense in the final minutes.

    Red Oak got the ball back on a turnover on downs with less than a minute left and ended the game with 3 victory formation snaps.
