RED OAK – The Red Oak Hawks fell to the Class 6A Garland Sachse Mustangs 64-42 under the Friday Night Lights at Billy Goodloe Stadium.
The Mustangs got the scoring started early and often, with Luke Keefer scoring on a four-yard touchdown run on Sachse’s first possession. That was the first score as part of a 37-point first quarter for the Mustangs that set the tone. Keefer finished the game on the ground with 201 yards and three scores.
Sachse continued moving the ball in the second half, finishing the game with 433 rushing yards and 703 total yards of offense.
Red Oak continued to keep up, as quarterback Jaylon Robinson ended the game with six touchdowns of his own, including five through the air. His favorite target was Jace Wyatt, who had eight catches for 142 yards and three scores.
The Hawk defense slowed the Mustang offense down in the 2nd half, but Red Oak’s offense could not overcome 116 yards in penalties and the Mustang lead from the 1st half.
The Hawk’s schedule does not get any easier this Friday night as they had to find a replacement game after the school from Philadelphia (PA) had to cancel. They now host 6A Rockwall-Heath High School at Billy Goodloe Stadium.
Regardless of their non-district schedule this season, the Hawks will be battle tested as they move into one of the toughest Class 5A district schedules in the state.
Kickoff on Sept. 10 is at 7 p.m.
