MANSFIELD – Midlothian Heritage senior quarterback Kaden Brown had a career night, throwing for 345 yards and five touchdowns in a convincing victory over Mansfield Summit in a showdown game for a share of the District 5-5A Division II lead Friday night at R.L. Anderson Stadium.
Wide receiver Xavier Moten did his part, leading the Heritage receiving corps with five catches for 126 yards and four touchdowns. Junior Stetson Sarratt was close behind with four catches for 119 yards, one going for the game’s final score.
Summit (3-3, 2-1), a 5A Division I state semifinalist the last two seasons, played the first half on close to even terms.
But four turnovers in the 1st half and a touchdown conversion attempt by Summit that was intercepted by Heritage and returned for two points were deadly mistakes.
Getting the ball back with a 16-13 lead, Heritage needed only 38 seconds to drive for another score with Brown and Moten hooking up for the second time on a post route, this one for 17 yards, and a 10-point halftime lead was too much to overcome.
