HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WEEK 5: Waxahachie 30, Mansfield Lake Ridge 21

WAXAHACHIE — Iverson Young rushed for 164 yards and two scores as Waxahachie outlasted Mansfield Lake Ridge.

After a back-and-forth first half that featured seven turnovers and a safety, Waxahachie seized control after quarterback Roderick Hartsfield Jr. connected with wide receiver Joseph Lankford on a 34-yard pass to go up 23-14 to close out the first half.

Waxahachie (4-0, 2-0 District 11-6A) threw an interception on the first possession of the second half. Lake Ridge inched a little closer, needing 15 plays to find paydirt and bring the score to 23-21 midway through the third. Waxahachie stopped the rally there, holding Lake Ridge to two punts and ending the night with an interception on Lake Ridge’s last offensive possession.
