MIDLOTHIAN — Quarterback Ryder Lambert tallied 101 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns to help Stephenville defeat Midlothian Heritage to clinch the district’s first seed. Stephenville’s defense had two defensive touchdowns and recovered three turnovers.
Midlothian Heritage (6-3, 2-2 District 5-4A) got off to a fast start with an 82-yard pass from quarterback Kaden Brown to start the scoring. On the ensuing kickoff, the Jaguars recovered an onside kick. A few plays later, running back Greg Johnson scored on a 27-yard reverse.
Stephenville (9-0, 4-0 District 5-4A) answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by running back Tate Maruska on a 17-yard rush to bring the score to 14-7 at the half.
On the Jaguars’ opening drive of the second half, they drove to the 7-yard line, where the Yellow Jackets forced a fumble that led to a 96-yard return from Ben Kirbo. On the first play of the next drive, the Yellow Jackets forced another fumble. They then had an eight-play, 72-yard drive capped by a receiving touchdown from Coy Eakin.
