HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WEEK 10: Mans. Summit 42, Midlothian 21

MANSFIELD — Free safety like Ahmaad Moses plucked two interceptions for the second time in his varsity career to help Summit defeat Midlothian 42-21 in District 4-5A Division I matchup Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium and clinch a first-round home playoff game.

Summit (6-3, 5-1 in District 4-5A DI), No. 11 in SportsDay’s Class 5A area ranking, came into the game with its third consecutive playoff trip assured and now has wrapped up a first round home bi-district game.

Despite the defeat, Midlothian (5-4, 4-2), No. 15 in the 5A area clinched its third playoff berth in four seasons with Burleson Centennial’s 37-27 loss to Colleyville Heritage.

Summit’s defense forced three turnovers, blocked two punts and limited Midlothian to seven points in the second half.

After the Summit defense stopped Midlothian on downs for the second time in the first half, Jackson circled left end for a 14-yard touchdown that made it 14-0 midway the second quarter.

Midlothian’s offense began the game with 21 consecutive running plays but on its third possession began to mix in the pass. The Panthers went 75 yards in seven plays capped by De’ago Benson’ 53-yard sprint to cut Summit’s advantage to 14-7.
