RED OAK – The Red Oak Hawks started the 2022 season out with an exciting 51-43 win over the Colony Cougars at Billy Goodloe Stadium on Friday, Aug. 26.
The Hawks, which have been a run first, pass second team for years seemed to have switch it up, at least for first game of the 2022 season. Red Oak threw the ball a lot throughout most of the game, but it paid dividends into the second half as it opened the running game up and kept the Cougars on their heels.
The teams traded scores early in the game. The Hawks built a 16-7 lead in the 1st quarter, only to see the Cougars score two touchdowns in less than a minute before halftime taking a 21-16 lead into the dressing room.
Red Oak rebounded in the 2nd half, outscoring the Cougars 22-14 in the 3rd quarter and 13-8 in the 4th. The Hawks defense closed the game out with a huge interception with just under 2 minutes remaining.
The Hawks travel to Arlington Seguin on Friday, Sept. 2 for another non-district game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
