Arlington Seguin 41, Red Oak 34

ARLINGTON – G’Manii Smith took a short pass from Chevy Andrews 22 yards for a touchdown with 38 seconds remaining for the go-ahead score as Arlington Seguin won a thriller 41-34 in a matchup of ranked teams Thursday at Choctaw Stadium.

Smith finished with three touchdowns, including a 30-yard scoring strike from Andrews with 30 seconds left in the first half.

After Smith’s last-minute touchdown, Red Oak drove deep in Seguin territory, but linebacker De’Shaun Marable made a tackle at the Seguin 9-yard line as time expired. Marable also had an interception and a 4-yard return for a touchdown in the first quarter as well as a fumble recovery and two tackles for a loss.

Seguin took a 34-27 lead on a 56-yard touchdown pass from Andrews to Johnaven Polk, who finished with seven receptions for 108 yards, with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter. A 53-yard fumble return by Red Oak’s Javonte’ Motley set up a 10-yard touchdown by Renard Thomas III to tie the score with 5:02 remaining at 34-all. Smith’s late score was set up by a forced fumble by Preston Randall and recovery by Byrsin Green at the Red Oak 24-yard line with 53 seconds remaining.

Andrews finished with 219 yards passing and three touchdowns for Seguin (2-0).
