OAK LEAF – Newly appointed Oak Leaf Mayor Tom Leverentz said, “I think I am the only person who has been mayor of two cities in the same county in modern times.”

Before being named mayor in the town of Oak Leaf on Dec. 30, 2019, he was also at one time the mayor of Ovilla.

That town borders Oak Leaf.

Leverentz took the seat as Oak Leaf’s mayor when former Mayor Jimmie Lamb resigned.

The new mayor has sat on the Oak Leaf City Council since May 2019.

With a population of 1,500, Leverentz said, “As mayor, I am very fortunate to have an existing city council to work with that shares the same motivation and visions that I have for the city.”

Those visions include a proactive mindset in planning for the future.

“We are looking into everything for city investments, road maintenance and zoning,” Leverentz added.

“The improvements for Ovilla Road will open up opportunities for the city with regards to commercial properties.”

A town since 1983, it is new compared to neighboring Ovilla, Glenn Heights and Red Oak.

“I have been drawing upon my previous experience as mayor and councilman in the city of Ovilla to help Oak Leaf more forward,” Leverentz concluded.
