Democrats are grasping in the dark for reasons to still support former Vice President Joe Biden for president. And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) may have just grabbed on to the most farfetched one yet.
Asked to explain her support for Biden in the 2020 election, Cortez explained on “The View” that the stakes are too high because of the current administration’s policies.
“I think right now the stakes are just too high when it comes to another four years of Trump,” Cortez explained to Whoopi Goldberg, later adding, “for a lot of communities this is an issue of life and death. We’ve had kids in cages, we’ve had a pandemic response that happened way too late that has cost us lives.”
As we’ve noted exclusively here at Townhall back in 2014, the whole “kids in cages” travesty began during the Obama administration.
PolitiFact called Biden’s bluff when he tried to distance himself from the cage controversy last year on the debate stage.
“We didn’t lock people up in cages,” he said. “We didn’t separate families. We didn’t do all of those things, number one.”
“False,” PolitiFact responded.
Of course, per usual, the controversy only made front page news when Trump was in office. And some infamous photos of children in cages have been erroneously linked to his administration.
If I was AOC, I’d start reaching for other reasons to support the presumptive Democratic nominee.
By the way, if you listen to Cortez while she’s campaigning for Biden and notice a lack of enthusiasm, that’s because the establishment candidate was probably her last choice. As we know, she preferred candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders and his socialist agenda. But he duly dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden, just as he did for Hillary Clinton in 2016. And we know how that worked out.
