As we move into the beginning of what seems a never-ending election season, we Texans have some decisions to make.

These decisions will be hard for those who aligned with the current ruling party in Austin.

For others it is an opportunity to change our state government and head in a new direction.

We all must decide if we are happy with the status quo.

There are many issues facing us.

Our schools are failing from lack of funding and support.

Data centers are proliferating in Ellis County and counties around us.

Power is being taken away from our local city and county government and centralized in the State House.

The cost of living is rising faster than wages and is quickly out pacing retirement incomes.

Many of you reading this article have already bought and paid for your homes.

Your retirement is set, yet it feels like you are getting further and further behind.

Rising prices for food, insurance and utilities are rising faster than your take home pay.

For the first time the price of a pound of ground beef exceeds the minimum hourly wage.

Local governments cannot stop the growth of data centers in your communities.

The state has taken that away from community leaders.

Poor environmental policies are having an effect on weather-related claims.

Lack of oversight of the Texas Insurance Agency, caused by large political donations, is also causing our insurance rates to rise.

The actions of the past are the best predictor of future actions.

The challenges faced by everyday citizens transcend political parties.

We must become color blind to political parties and avoid partisan divides.

It boils down to what is right or wrong and if you are really happy with how these issues are being handled.

There are solutions to these problems, but voters must send a clear message that they want change.

We can no longer take sides or get caught up in theatrics.

It is past time that we began thinking about those who are coming behind us.

We must vote to give them the same chance at the American dream that we had.

We owe it to them, their kids and grandkids.

We must steer Texas in a new direction and rejuvenate the American dream.
