WAXAHACHIE - A parking spot spat turned into a jail sentence for a Fort Worth man who was sentenced to five years in prison.
The argument took place on July 4, 2024, at a boat dock park.
Ellis County and District Attorney’s office reported the trial had resulted in Cesar Martin Castillo Galvan, 27, being convicted of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon following the trial where his claims of self-defense completely fell apart.
The chaos began when a physical fight broke out between two women over a parking space at the boat dock park.
While bystanders tried to defuse the situation, Galvan walked to his vehicle, grabbed a firearm, and fired multiple rounds into the crowd.
One of the bullets struck an innocent bystander in the ankle.
Galvan then sped away from the scene at a high rate of speed, leaving his own girlfriend and her family stranded.
The weapon he used was never recovered.
At trial, Galvan argued he acted in self-defense and in defense of his sister-in-law, claiming he feared for her safety during the brawl.
However, prosecutors dismantled this narrative when testimony revealed his sister-in-law was actually a trained wrestler and jujitsu practitioner who continued chasing the other woman even after the gunshots were fired.
Galvan also claimed he was threatened by an unidentified man who asked, “Is there a problem here?”
The story shifted during the trial until he claimed he was facing a whole group of unidentified men.
The jury ultimately found his shifting accounts completely uncredible.
Following the guilty verdict, the State and the defense agreed to the five-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors revealed the victim became uncooperative and failed to show up for the trial’s punishment phase.
Without that testimony, the DA’s office determined a five-year sentence, which required Galvan to completely waive his right to appeal, was the best option for judicial economy and community safety.
