ELLIS COUNTY – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Midlothian’s Greg Wilhelm as the judge for the new 504th Judicial District Court in Ellis County.

The effective date of his term began Dec. 1, and is set to expire Dec. 31, 2026, or “until a successor is elected and qualified.”

“I am honored and humbled to share that Governor Abbott has appointed me to serve as Judge of the 504th Judicial District Court in Ellis County,” Judge Wilhelm said on a Facebook post.

“I am deeply grateful for the Governor’s confidence in me and in my ability to serve our community well.

“His recognition of the importance of placing an experienced judge on the bench during this crucial time of growth in our county means more than I can express.”

Wilhelm said he also appreciates he and Abbott share a conservative, constitutional approach to the law “grounded in principle, accountability, and the belief that justice must be applied faithfully and fairly.”
This is Wilhelm’s second judicial appointment.

He was selected in 2007 by former Gov. Rick Perry to serve as judge in the Ellis County Court at Law No. 1.

Wilhelm is a partner in the firm Cantey Hanger, LLP, at the Ellis County Office.

He is the president of the Ellis County Bar Association, and a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Christian Legal Society.

He is also a member of the Midlothian Economic Development Board, chairman of the Regent University School of Law Alumni Board, former chairman of the Texas Governor’s Parental Rights Advisory Panel, former member of the Texas Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, former and founding board president of CASA of Ellis County, Inc. and former Statewide Board President of Texas CASA.

“I look forward to continuing my service to you and all of Ellis County. Thank you for your support, your trust, and your prayers as I step into this important responsibility.”
