We are talking about our pets, you silly human. Not a silly announcement when it comes to our weather conditions that have changed considerably in the last week.

I am not a fan of cooler weather, but my dogs and cats, and I know yours, are feeling frisky.

Our pets are becoming more playful, lively, excitable, frolicsome, and troublesome since this is perfect weather for them.

As our pets enjoy bursts of energy, it’s important to help manage and support the comfort of our arthritic or aging dogs and cats.

Before discussing available medications and conversations to have with your veterinarian, let’s first focus on what you can do at home to enhance your pet’s comfort.

Hardwood or tile floors aren’t ideal for homes with pets, so you’ll need to adjust areas where your pet stays and plays.

Get some rugs that will not slide like a hockey puck on a newly iced rink when they decide to jump up/ down from their favorite chair or race around the corner during their indoor playtime.

Place non-skid rugs in entrance ways, under/around chairs or couches where they jump down from, place around corners so knees or backs don’t get hurt or any area where your pet does the “zoomies”.

When selecting furniture, consider whether its surface may be slippery for pets to access safely.

Using rubber backing beneath blankets or on cushions on slick furniture can help prevent accidents.

Pets are at risk of injury when jumping onto items such as leather ottomans, which may cause them to slide and fall due to insufficient traction. Just ask Teddi Bear!

Save some money, buy a non-skid rug gripper and cut it into your desired size. Place under rugs or anything else that is slippery for your pet.  It is better to be safe than sorry.
