WASHINGTON D.C. – Texas State Sen. Brian Birdwell was named in a Presidential Action last week by Pres. Donald Trump to serve as an assistant secretary of defense.

Birdwell, a Republican from Granbury, currently oversees a Texas legislative committee that hears border and homeland security proposals.

He is a retired Lt. Col., decorated military veteran and a native Texan born in Fort Worth.

Birdwell has sat on the Texas Senate since 2010.

The latest action on the presidential nomination was on Oct. 21 when it was received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on Armed Services.

If he is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he will make a move to the Pentagon. It will not be his first time. He has worked in Washington D.C. before as part of the Department of the Army staff.

His 20-year career in the Army included operational and training deployments among other duties.

Birdwell had made it clear this past summer he did not plan to seek reelection as a Texas State Senator.
