ALMA

The City of Alma held a public hearing to adopt its new tax rate for tax year 2025. The proposed tax rate is $0.250000 per $100 of value.


BARDWELL

Reminder, the City of Bardwell Trash rates have increased this month to a rate of $16.86 a month.


CEDAR HILL

Cedar Hill ISD approved new hours for 2025-2026; Elementary Schools: 8:15 a.m. – 3:55 p.m., Middle Schools: 8:55 a.m. – 4:35 p.m., High Schools: 7:25 a.m. – 3:05 p.m., and Collegiate Academy: 7:25 a.m. – 3:05 p.m.


ENNIS

Ennis ISD scored an “A” financial rating by the Texas Education Agency’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).


FERRIS

Chick-fil-A began serving the community in Ferris with a special pop-up service every Tuesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 100 Town Plaza in Ferris.

 

GARRETT

GRAND PRAIRIE

The Grand Prairie City Council recently recognized Poly America for their generous land donation, which has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Luckett Community Garden since its inception in February 2002. The Luckett Community Garden is located on land leased to the city for a nominal fee of $1 per decade.

 

GLENN HEIGHTS

The City of Grand Prairie worked an incident Sunday in which a female called 911 from a car and said her boyfriend was drunk, had a handgun and was assaulting her while driving west on IH-30 from Dallas. Police found her at a gas station and were able to get her from the car.  Police instructed the woman’s boyfriend who had been driving the vehicle to show officers his empty hands and comply with police. He refused and began reaching inside the vehicle according to a press release. Fearing for his life and the life of the female, an officer then “discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.” Medical staff pronounced the suspect deceased after life saving measures were administered. The female, who suffered injuries from the assault, was treated and released by medics. Witnesses said the suspect had been firing the handgun multiple times out of the vehicle window prior to encountering officers.


ITALY

The next Italy City Council meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., 161 W Main St., Italy.


MANSFIELD

The Mansfield City Council heard a first reading on an ordinance levying the ad valorem taxes for the Tax Year 2025 (Fiscal Year 2025-2026) at a rate of $0.639000 per one hundred dollars assessed valuation on all taxable property within the corporate limits of the city as of Jan. 1, 2025, to provide revenues for the payment of current expenditures and to provide an interest and sinking fund on all outstanding debts of the city.


MAYPEARL

The City of Maypearl adopted its tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate.

 

MIDLOTHIAN

The City of Midlothian and the Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to display Phase 1 of the proposed Regional Trail to be located near Waxahachie Creek from Mt. Zion Road to Rex Odom Road. The meeting will be open house format, allowing visitors to come and go at 215 N. 8th Street, Midlothian on Sept. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m.

 

OAK LEAF

The Oak Leaf website cautioned residents that starting July 30, road work began on Forest Brook Drive, Meadowbrook Drive, Red Oak Creek Drive, Hackberry Drive and Locust Drive. Delays were anticipated and no word was announced on when the repairs will be complete.

 

OVILLA

Blackboard Connect is the City of OVILLA’s city-to-resident/BUSINESS notification service. The service offers information about time-sensitive issues such as severe weather, waterline disruptions, office closings, upcoming events, etc., and is communicated to citizens in a timely manner through the service. PALMER

The next Palmer City Council meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.


RED OAK

Red Oak Public Works recently installed “No Parking” signs along Harmony Way, the road to Summerwood Estates and behind B&B Theatres. The signs are to help keep traffic flowing safely and ensure everyone can access the area without any issues.


VENUS

City of Venus residents can complete a survey at www.cityofvenus.org/home/webforms/citizen-feedback-form to report any concerns, suggestions and/or compliments to the City of Venus.


WAXAHACHIE

Beginning Sept. 1, the Waxahachie Citizens Convenience Station will be open Tuesday through Saturday and closed every Sunday and Monday. The hours remain 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Citizens Convenience Station is located at 499 Lions Park Road near the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and is available to Waxahachie residents to dispose of bulky items that may include household furniture, lawn and landscape garbage, and brush/tree limbs.
