WAXAHACHIE – Spectrum crews are actively working to restore service following an act of vandalism disrupting connectivity for customers in the Waxahachie area.
Multiple utility lines were cut early Monday morning off North Highway 77 in Waxahachie, impacting internet and other services in the community.
“Intentional cuts are not only a crime, but also affect our customers, local businesses and potentially emergency services,” stated Spectrum in a press release.
“We are working with local law enforcement partners on this crime and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information on this act of vandalism can contact Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS (8477).
Most fiber optic cables contain several strands of fiber (sometimes dozens or hundreds), and the volume of strands impacts the duration of the outage because each strand must be reconnected.
“Think of it like having a handful of uncooked spaghetti noodles that you break and then must manually reconnect.
The process/timeline to “resplice” varies by the volume of strands inside and the number of distinct cuts made to each cable.
This process also explains why some affected customers have their services restored before others.
