It’s almost time to spring forward and enjoy an extra hour of daylight!
Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9. In the United States, Daylight Saving Time (DST) formerly began on the last Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October. In 1986 the U.S. Congress passed a law that moved up the start of Daylight Saving Time to the first Sunday in April but kept its end date the same. In 2007 Daylight Saving Time changed again in the United States, as the start date was moved to the second Sunday in March and the end date to the first Sunday in November.
Other interesting facts about Daylight Saving Time:
• It’s Daylight Saving Time, not ‘savings” time as it refers to the act of saving daylight, not a collection of savings.
• Hawaii and Arizona do not participate in Daylight Saving Time.
• The time change occurs twice annually, once in the spring (“spring forward”) and once in the fall (“fall back”).
• It always starts at 2 a.m. on a Sunday. When countries were first introduced to DST during WWI, there were no trains left at the stations at 2 a.m. on Sundays, and therefore it was concluded that this time would be the least disruptive for train travel around the country.
NEW PROGRAM: HOOK & NEEDLE – The library is excited to host a new monthly program called Hook & Needle.
We invite all needlecrafters to bring their projects to work on, whether it’s knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, embroidery, sewing, or other fiber-related projects. Beginners and experts are welcome!
The group will meet twice a month on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room. Our next session is on Monday, March 17.
Enjoy light refreshments and the company of fellow crafters. Drop-ins are always welcome.
The library does not provide supplies, so bring your own materials and project with you.
STORY TIME is hosted every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Children are treated to stories, fun activities, and a snack. Before leaving, your child may choose a prize from the treasure chest to take home.
AFTER-SCHOOL GAME TIME is held each Thursday from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Children can play the PS5 on the large screen in the meeting room and board games are also available.
The library is located at 301 E. 10th St., across from Mutz Ballpark. Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.
