WAXAHACHIE – A disturbance call last week in Waxahachie escalated into an officer involved shooting now being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
According to reports, the Waxahachie Police Department responded to a “disturbance” call on West Jefferson Street on Sunday, Oct. 6, at approximately 9:27 p.m.
When officers arrived, a FB post from the Waxahachie Police Department indicated they observed a white male holding a large dagger in the street within close proximity of a female.
While officers tried to deescalate the situation, the opposite occurred with the male, identified as 27-year-old Larry Reeves III, city of residence unknown, escalated the situation when he refused multiple commands to drop the weapon.
Reeves then moved toward the female, provoking a situation which drove the officer to make the decision to fire at him.
Reeves then threw the dagger at the officer according to police, which resulted in the officer responding by firing additional rounds.
Personnel from both the Waxahachie Police Department and the Waxahachie Fire-Rescue Department also responded and attempted life-saving measures.
Reeves was transported to Baylor Scott &White Waxahachie Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
