FERRIS – Just one day after SB Interstate 45 was shut down for hours following a deadly crash in Dallas between Loop 12 and Simpson Stuart Road leaving four dead, NB I-45 was also shut down Sunday night, Sept. 16 in Ferris at exit 267 for several hours.
Sunday’s fatality crash occurred a little before 10 p.m. and left one man who had been driving a motorcycle dead.
First responders including at least three fire trucks and one ambulance were at the scene when Ferris resident, Terrance Murphy walked from his home located just off NB I-45 and 267 to investigate the abundance of sirens coming from the highway.
“He died instantly, I can tell you that,” Murphy said talking about the victim on the motorcycle.
Murphy said when he arrived from what he could tell it appeared the motorcycle hit the truck.
He said he believed the truck, a maroon or red Toyota Tacoma, must have been stopped on the side of the road in the median next to the left lane heading northbound.
“The motorcycle hit the right rear panel and actually hit it so hard it ripped the rear tire off,” Murphy explained.
He said when he arrived, LED lights on the motorcycle were still glowing and the body had been covered.
Murphy said he asked the driver of the truck what had happened, and the man indicated in Spanish that he did not speak English and did not know. He said it appeared the man driving the truck was not injured.
