MIDLOTHIAN – The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department successfully located the suspect who Grand Prairie Police officers had been searching for after the individual fled from police during an encounter Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Sheriff’s Department sent out a Facebook post to residents Saturday regarding the man hunt in the area. The post indicated there would be an increased police presence in the 5100 block of Joe Wilson Road in Midlothian.
At that time, all that was known was the Grand Prairie Police were searching for an individual who fled.
Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman specified, “Please avoid the area, if possible, as officers are actively engaged in this search. We will provide updates as the situation develops.”
A second post on Facebook went out later the same day letting residents know the police activity in the 5100 block of Joe Wilson had been discontinued by Grand Prairie Police.
The post reported, “After an extensive search, the individual who fled from police has not been located and officers have concluded their search at this time. Regular activity may resume and we thank you for your patience.”
Sheriff’s deputies, Midlothian and Ovilla police maintained an increased presence in the area, and later that same day it was indicated the suspect had been apprehended.
The suspect was not identified by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, and was reported in custody after being found while hiding behind a barn in the 5600 block of Cedar Ridge in Midlothian.
“We want to extend our sincere thanks to the residents and the community for their assistance in this manhunt. No injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved peacefully,” Norman said.
