ELLIS COUNTY – County officials or company staff at South Ellis County Water Supply Corp., have not pinpointed the cause yet as to why over 100 residents in Ellis County have been forced to boil their water since the beginning of July.

The customers experiencing the problems are all served by South Ellis County Water Supply Corp., a nonprofit utility system, according to the company.

The company has three wells in the county.

The wells in question being used for the customer’s water supply have a water pressure that is lower than is allowed by the state, resulting in a water boil notice.

It is suspected the cause is a leak or leaks due to low water pressure somewhere along the water line.

Some of the problems with South Ellis County Water Supply Corp. include an old infrastructure that has not been updated in years, water line maps that are not exact, and the overall cost of repair when issues are discovered.

When water pressure is low, it can result in a number of issues for customers including contaminated drinking water, bad smells and lower water pressure experienced by the customer.

Customers have even been advised to boil their water before washing their hands.

It has been noted the company has taken care of five leaks in the past several weeks, but the problem has not been resolved.

One technician said the company is manually searching the affected 23 square miles for the issue, as well as using a drone to try and find the leak.

To date, the utility company has indicated to customers there is no timeframe for an end to the boil notice or when the problem will be solved.
