WILMER – City of Wilmer seniors stay busy. They also enjoy visiting with other Wilmer residents.
Should you be looking for a place to enjoy lunch on a weekday, stop by and fellowship with the city’s seniors this month and throughout the year.
“The congregate meal program is an exciting addition to our already thriving senior services program,” said Sarah Wainscott, senior service coordinator.
“Proper nutrition and regular socialization are key to maintaining independence in our twilight years, so it is great to be able to provide this to the seniors in our community.”
Wilmer officially implemented the congregate meal program, also known as the Senior Meal Program, on Jan. 8.
Sponsored in part by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, the program provides free and nutritious meals for seniors ages 60 and older. The meal plan is also open to all guests, for only $7.97 including not only a nutritious meal, but heartwarming conversation.
Lunch is served at the Wilmer Community Center, 101 Davidson Plaza, Monday through Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m., and is usually concluded by 12:30 p.m.
“The City of Wilmer is pleased to offer our active seniors and all residents yet another opportunity to join together for fun and fellowship,” said Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this excellent chance to meet and get to know the residents in the city.”
