ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners Court decided in a 3-2 vote to continue to search for a new human resources director.

Lane Grayson, pct. 2, made the motion to continue looking while Ellis County Judge Todd Little disagreed.

“I would say we have one or two satisfactory candidates,” said Little. “I do favor one over the other, but we have a motion to go back out.

“I personally think for the budget salary we have in Ellis County we are probably not going to get a whole lot more than what we have seen. I know our HR Director has done a very deep dive on the qualifications of all the candidates that have applied.”

He said he would like to see the court make a decision in the meeting this past Tuesday because “time is of the essence and the first of the year is important to us starting out 2024 correctly.”

Paul Perry, pct. 3, agreed with Little adding he thinks the market is what the market is, and “I think we have more than one satisfactory candidate.”

The 10 applications were narrowed down to four, and from there two final applicants were in consideration.

Grayson’s motion passed with Randy Stinson, pct. 1, and Kyle Butler, pct. 4, voting to go back out for a further search.

The position has been open nearly 45 days for candidates to apply. After the vote, Little encouraged anyone who had a applied to reapply for the position.
