FERRIS – In true “Distinct by Design” fashion, the City of Ferris has budgeted for and approved a large street rehabilitation project totaling approximately $2.3 million dollars for this fiscal year.

This is a massive undertaking for the city after decreasing  property tax rate by $0.268154 per $100 of value, almost 35 percent.  Council voted unanimously to pass the resolution adopting a tax rate of $0.494700 per $100 of value at their monthly meeting in August.

City Manager Brooks Williams said, “It is unprecedented to see a project of this magnitude from a municipality after a 35.15% decrease in tax revenue. As our Vision Statement says, we are focused on a vibrant economy, quality of life, and sense of community pride that is Distinct by Design.

“How can we achieve these without first improving the infrastructure in our city? The street rehabilitation project will span over three (3) phases beginning with streets East of Central Street.”
