FERRIS – Mike Moffitt, Ferris School Board Trustee of nine years and a Navy veteran, resigned at last week’s Ferris ISD Special called school board meeting. The resignation was over issues that include circumstances yet to be revealed.
Actions taken in Executive Session disturbed Moffitt; these actions were not made public. Executive Sessions are not made public during meetings by law, however actions taken because of the meetings are required to be made public information.
Ferris ISD Superintendent Hector Madrigal did not answer questions regarding the outcome of the meeting, replying by email to the newspaper: “Closed meetings are confidential. I am not at liberty to share closed discussions.”
However, after more probing and a reminder the results of closed meetings are not confidential, he did respond one more time: “You are correct. What was discussed is supposed to stay in closed. The final audit, as listed on the agenda, was discussed.”
No information, however, of the second item on the agenda “PERSONNEL: (1) EMPLOYMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND TEACHING STAFF INCLUDING ASSIGNMENTS, REASSIGNMENTS, RESIGNATIONS, RETIREMENTS, TERMINATIONS, NON-RENEWALS AND COMPENSATION” was made known.
