FERRIS – When the North Texas Municipal Water District rates increase, it affects everyone locally too.

So, when the North Texas Municipal Water District recently announced a large increase in rates, it meant an increase for Ferris residents.

The increase is scheduled to be adopted next month, and the rate will go from $3.703 per 1000 gallons to $4.215 per 1000 gallons. That’s a 13.83% increase.

“This is good information to have to show how local government is not immune from rising costs,” said Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams.

The increase was determined last week at the Ten Mile Creek Wastewater System Advisory Committee meeting.

It was there members learned the Trinity River Authority is proposing an increase to the sewer rate for the City of Ferris as a contracting party for 2024.

The increase is being called for to cover TRA’s improvements to infrastructures, salary increases for employees, health insurance, and more.

This increase also effects those residents who are “anti-growth,” one resident said.

“With less payers of the system, the increase still occurs – and now is spread across less people.”
