RED OAK – Late last week, a Red Oak resident said he filed assault charges against Red Oak Mayor Mark Stanfill.
Paul Kern said he and a colleague were in Ovilla putting out school bond opposition signs when the incident occurred.
“Chris Moses and I have been working in opposition to getting the bonds passed for a couple of years,” Kern said.
On April 6, Kern and Moses had a conversation with Stanfill near his veterinary clinic in Ovilla while they were in the area putting out signs to oppose the upcoming school bond election.
Kerns said Moses was telling Stanfill they had permission to put the signs up at the location in question when the Red Oak mayor, said according to Kerns, “Go ahead and put them up – and I will pull the signs down,” or something to that effect.
According to Kern, a conversation ensued that led Stanfill to say he was being threatened.
This was followed by Kern saying he was touched by Stanfill, thereafter deciding to file assault charges on the mayor with the Ovilla Police Department.
The Ovilla Police Department did not supply this newspaper with the police report filed by Kern by press time. Stanfill or the City of Red Oak did not return a reply by press time.
