RED OAK – You know a city is growing when it is large enough to warrant a movie theater.

Red Oak currently has a population, according to World Population Review, of 15,257, and is the 202nd largest city in Texas with a growth rate of 2.31% annually.

In December, the council approved spending $42,500 from Red Oak Economic Development Corporation monies to allow B&B Theatres Operating Corporation to construct the city’s first movie theater.

Construction will begin early this year on the 8.4 acres at Overlook Drive and Harmony Way purchased by B&B Theatres Operating Corporation, and is said will be valued at roughly $20 million when complete.

The theater will be home to 12 movie screens.

A spokesperson for the Economic Development Corporation said the theater is forecasted to be open by the first quarter of next year.

A Google Data Center also plans to break ground in the next few months on 179 acres near E. Ovilla Road and N. Central Boulevard.
