ENNIS – At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, a Union Pacific train derailed in the City of Ennis.
Union Pacific Corporate Communication Manager Susan Stevens did not have any answers as to what caused the train to derail.
Stevens said the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department was notified; however, Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman said his department did not work the incident.
Stevens did not indicate how long it took to clear the tracks in order to return to normal operations, but did say no train crew was injured and the cause was under investigation.
The Ennis Police Department reported there were six cars involved and all were haulers. Two of the cars were turned over and the additional four, which were derailed remained upright.
Ennis PD also said there were no hazards or traffic disruptions due to the train derailment.
