WILMER – It was a packed house last Thursday night at the Wilmer City Council meeting.
The reason was an item on the agenda to discuss ordinances as related to possible boundary adjustments.
The purpose of the request was to adjust the city boundary map to include properties currently located within Wilmer ETJ that have received longstanding treatment.
Staff notes outlined the fact, “The governing body of a municipality may adopt an ordinance to declare an area that is adjacent to the municipality and that meets the requirements of Texas Local Government Code to be a part of the municipality.
“The adoption of the ordinance creates an irrebuttable presumption the area is a part of the municipality for all purposes.”
Wilmer City Administrator Rona Stringfellow said there were a few property owners at the meeting who opposed the boundary adjustment.
With three citizens making comment, one was an attorney representing roughly nine property owners who filed in court to oppose it the action.
Finally, council passed 36 of the 45 ordinances to include in the boundary adjustment, excluding the properties included in the lawsuit.
