WILMER – On Oct. 20, the city council approved an agreement with UTSW/Parkland to provide medical direction for the city’s emergency medical services and provide a prehospital emergency medical direction.

The medical direction is provided through the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The BioTel EMS system supplies prehospital emergency medical services in the Dallas metro area.

The collaboration between Parkland, UT Southwestern and paramedics from the surrounding city’s EMS agencies forms the core of the UTSW/BioTel EMS system.

The city is one of many Dallas County cities taking part in this important medical system. It’s a resource that provides behind-the-scenes lifesaving service to support all emergency medical personnel as well as many additional resources.

Mayor Sheila Petta noted, “We are so excited to join this program to provide support to our EMS and have a back-up consultation system available along with the numerous resources that are provided to our Fire Department as well as our residents is extremely important.”

With a cost share among other cities, Biotel includes on-line medical direction utilizing nursing staff and doctors 24/7 within the Parkland BioTel System program as well as a social work program and off-line medical direction.
