ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Judges’ offices is now taking applications for any Ellis County organizations who want to apply for the American Rescue Plan Act funding.

According to Corey Rogan, Public Information Strategist, Office of Ellis County Judge Todd Little, the federal funds are being issued to provide “relief from the negative impacts of the pandemic to local organizations that address public health, behavioral or mental health, substance abuse, domestic abuse and family violence, and more.”

Charitable organizations aiding populations negatively impacted by the pandemic, or businesses improving water or broadband infrastructure in Ellis County are also eligible to apply.

Ellis County was issued $9.18-million from ARPA to assist with the community recovery efforts in the designated areas.

“The American Rescue Plan Act directed the U.S. Treasury to disburse Coronavirus relief funding to states and local governments to help them mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic in their communities,” Rogan said.

“This funding may only be spent for specific recovery purposes outlined in the Treasury’s Final Rule.”

In accordance with the Final Rule, there are four focus areas for these funds: 1.) County Operations, 2.) Infrastructure, 3.) Community Recovery, and 4.) Emergency Preparedness.

Ellis County already received $35.9 million in June.

Organizations may apply for ARPA funding by filling out an application located on the home page of Ellis County’s website (co.ellis.tx.us) and submitting the application to the County Judge’s Office by Dec. 31.

Any projects funded by ARPA must be under contract and started by Dec. 31, 2024, and complete by Dec. 31, 2026.

Ellis County commissioners will approve each application individually based on the merits and quality of services provided.

Funding will be disbursed after the close of applications on Dec. 31.
